Of course, we will again be starting with the 'meat' of the list - the Troops.
10 Assault Marines
Now, as is usual with Assault-based lists, we don't really require Flamers, as we will be rolling buckets of dice in CC, and these guys carry Frags. Instead, we need to boost what would, frankly, risk being mediocre anti-tank by concentrating there.
2 Meltaguns, and an Infernus pistol should do the job.
Now, a Power Fist sounds like a good plan, but I say thee nay. Usually, we would, do to the terrible fear of Dreadnoughts. On this occasion, we're going to try and work around that problem elsewhere. Of course, Power Weapons would be nice, so we should bear them in mind.
For now, though, we'll just go with:
10 Assault Marines:
Meltagun, Meltagun, Infernus Pistol, Rhino - 275
So, we want three of these to begin with. That takes us to 825, and leaves us a slight issue. If we do that, we run out of Transport Capacity (as I, erringly, and unwittingly, did in the last list) and have no space for ICs. That means we need MORE Rhino chassis, to take our HQ, and the inevitable Priests. Wait...are the priests mandatory? Well, no, actually. We could take AstroBoy instead. That would be interesting, no? Not least because it frees up our Elite slots again...not altogether bad. Sadly, this causes a problem of it's own, as it minimises the opportunity to have Shield covering all the many vehicles in the army, something we obviously would like to achieve. Also, Astorath has a Jump Pack, prohibiting him riding in one of our transports, and thereby creating a logistical nightmare, where we have to provide a unit for him, without making a Deathstar list. Then, we are also paying points for the ability to take multiple DC units, something we don't necessarily want to do.
His 50% Rage *IS* useful, though... :(
Tricky.
For now, let's see what we can try and achieve using him.
Fewer vehicles covered by Shield, means that we will want to make the opponent's Target Priority a seeming no-brainer. In order to do that, we need something that is actually less of a threat than it appears. For that, we want the ultimate (Blood) Red Herring - Death Company. For 165 points we get 5 in a Rhino, with a Power Weapon. Good enough to attract enemy fire? Not really. Well, an extra 15 point investment replaces that with a Thunder Hammer. Or, how about we pay 10 more than that? 190 points, for a squad with a Fit *and* a Power Weapon. In a Rhino. I like that. Three of those? That doable? Well, 3 of those is 570, + 825 + 220 for Astorath...1615. Not awful. No Shield yet, so that's an issue. No fire support either. Let's do that next.
Predator - 70
Three Predators? I know what you're thinking, I'm nuts. Well, Riflemen would be great, but I'm not sure they wouldn't stand out too much. Mass Rhino-hull armies like this benefit greatly from deploying behind their bigger buddies...well, their better armoured buddies, anyway. AV13 with the 5+ (hopefully) from Shield is neat. Especially when shooting the other, weaker vehicles is going to be a 4+ at WORST. In addition, the lack of Sponsons keeps the cost down, allows tighter formation, and means there is never an issue with moving vs firing at full effect. 210 for those with the existing 1615 is only 1825. That leaves plenty of points for that Librarian we wanted, to provide our Collar of Khorne.
In fact, it leaves enough points for:
Librarian:
Shield of Sanguinius, The Sanguine Sword - 100
and a Fast Attack Choice too -
Attack Bike:
Multi-Melta - 50
It was at this point I realised I'm an idiot, and didn't subtract the Transport discount the ASM get. In either list. Duh. Having an extra 105 points, and the 25 I hadn't spent, changes the complexion of the list somewhat. Like everyone else in the Heresy, WE did have Land Speeders, so perhaps we should see about replacing the inferior, if ostensibly more fluffy Attack Bike. Yes, it would be worth pointing out that with FnP the Attack Bike is arguably superior. Sadly, we can't really get the FnP in this first version. Still, let's drop the Attack Bike, and take:
Land Speeder:
Heavy Bolter, Typhoon Missile Launcher - 90
Two of those.
That makes the list:
Astorath - 220
Librarian:
Shield of the Blood God, Daemon Weapon - 100
Assault Squad:
2 Meltaguns, Infernus Pistol, Rhino - 240
Assault Squad:
2 Meltaguns, Infernus Pistol, Rhino - 240
Assault Squad:
2 Meltaguns, Infernus Pistol, Rhino - 240
Death Company:
(5men) Power Weapon, Power Fist, Rhino - 190
Death Company:
(5men) Power Weapon, Power Fist, Rhino - 190
Death Company:
(5men) Power Weapon, Power Fist, Rhino - 190
Predator:
Autocannon - 70
Predator:
Autocannon - 70
Predator:
Autocannon - 70
Land Speeder:
Typhoon Missile Launcher, Heavy Bolter - 90
Land Speeder:
Typhoon Missile Launcher, Heavy Bolter - 90
Exactly 2k. Not terrible, IMO.

Maybe I'm just being a tool but where does Astoroth actually end up going? Running along behind the rhinos?
Sadly, yeah. He jumps up along behind them, like some sort of tool. ;)
The list could be better, but I think it's decent. Certainly better than any muppet's all DC list. lol
Now we all know James wa susing that list for a doubles tourney lol :P
I quite like the look of it :)
DO you reckon it 'decent' for a fluffy list trying to be competetive or just an actual 'decent' BA army? :)
Seems aggressive enough for my tastes =]
Trying to decide on a marine list. I've been delving into SPACE SHARKS!! Haha, If I go these guys I like this list for them =]
More the former than the latter, but I think its probably good enough for most locals to be pwned.
That said, there is a 2.5 list of this coming.
Hmmm, must say King I'm not a fan of 3 x 5 small units not scoring and having only 5 ranged units - pop them (two which aren't hard) and it's all short ranged, limited to meltas - which is good for Rhino hatch firing-ness.
I've just got no love for Death Company or Astro :( Sorry!
I had the same question about where Astorath would go using this list, thank you for clearing that up.
The other thing I was wondering about is your choice of heavy bolters for the land speeders. I've become so accustomed to seeing people pair typhoon missile launchers with heavy flamers, would you mind explaining a bit about why you'd want heavy bolters on them instead.
Thanks, TKE! I've been enjoying your blog for a while, sorry to have kept quiet until now.
Thank YOU! Entertainment and education are the cornerstones of my blogging ambition. Both is the ideal, one is still fantastic.
Anyway, the HBs on Typhoons warrants a separate post of it's no longer considered the norm. I *aim* to do it Friday. If not, then Sunday...a lot depends on how good the Noble Map Pack turns out to be... ;)
