Not Another Counts-As Article

From Eternity of War

Oh no! What’s this? Another opinionated fool trying to convince people on one of 40k’s most contentious issues?
*Cut to two small children nodding (one is holding a chocolate-covered teddy bear wearing a red paper hat)*
Hey it’s Widthofacircle here again, TKE asked me to write another article or two to help keep his blog afloat during his holidays and I obliged because I’m nice.

Totally Fluffy: Word Bearer List

Well, there was a bit of discussion on 3++ t'other day about Counts As (when isn't there?!?) and I believe I brought up Word Bearers (someone did, probably me - very much the kind of thing I would do...) in regard to making them from the Blood Angel Codex.

Happy Birthday to me!

First off - it's fine, I didn't REALLY expect a flood of emails (would've been nice...) so don't feel bad for forgetting.

EDIT: Just so we're clear - THIS is a song that sums up the emotion going on...I'm not depressed.  :)

Interlude: Chaos Space Marine Thoughts for Black Matt (of the Black Legion Blog)

Black Matt asked for help, with regards to his last available attempt to get a Golden Ticket for Vegas next year.

Since playing CSM is his forte, of sorts...certainly what he's known for, I thought, if I was going to help, that would be the way to do it.  While he has other beautifully painted models, he himself says that playing an outdated and mid-tier Codex is his best bet of victory, so who am I to criticise that?  I still play best with Eldar, whatever I might prefer...(debatably, I actually play better with Orks.  The Internet wouldn't agree though, and I cba with all that noise...)

Totally Fluffy World Eater List Two (Point Five)

Well, here we are again sportsfans, this time to create a simple variant that doesn't want to use Astorath and his Death Company, rather than to fix a mistake or two as last time.  ;)

Shockingly, the World Eaters are a Legion I've always quite liked...though I wouldn't really call myself much of a fan of Khorne.  I mean, I like the whole 'Throne of Skulls', 'Blood for the Blood God' stuff, but still not truly a fan.  Tzeentch has long been my favourite God in their pantheon - and the Thousand Sons for the longest time my favourite Traitor Legion.  Sadly, their steep decline in power, coupled with my 4e Death Guard army overtook them...then of course we have a rather magnificent piece of Graham McNeill writing about the Emperor's Children, and it rekindles my long-forgot emotions for the turmoil of the proudest, reduced to the debased scum they are now...

All in all, I would rather have a Pre-Heresy World Eaters force than Berzerkers to the rafter, but I don't really fancy painting white tanks.  The extreme irritation of painting yellow is a large reason why my Imperial Fists have never truly gotten off the ground, and white would be even worse.  Enough babble, on with the list!

Totally Fluffy World Eater List One (Point Five)

As you may or may not have noticed, the variant list below was a bit screwed up, because I forgot the 35 point discount awarded to BA Assault Squads when buying a Dedicated Transport instead of their free Jump Packs.  Shows what happens when you write a list from memory, instead of with the book!

Much delayed Email...

Sorry Jason! I'd like to say I didn't forget, but I sorta did.  I can only offer the lamest of excuses - that I was busily trying (and finally succeeded, yay!) to get accommodation sorted for my holidays, and that a girl distracted me in one of those unfair ways they have.  Suffice it to say, I remembered, and this is the first in a couple articles devoted to your interesting problem.

Well...I don't get as many emails as Stelek and Kirby, so I have to stretch them out.  :(

In fairness, I am pretty bad at replying in under a week, unless actually replying by email...which doesn't help the Blog, so...Here goes!

Gaming Etiquette: Grace in Defeat

Tonight, I played Jonny65 from the Northern Wasters, a practice game for our Home Nations tilt at the crown (or not, lol) in July.  First time I'd met the guy IRL, great guy (thanks again for the lift, lol!)

Community Posts of Note : Blackjack and Hookers

http://bnhblog.blogspot.com/2010/03/chumbys-definitive-daemon-discourse-hqs.html

No, no actual Hookers, just a very mouthy whore.  :p

It's the start of hopefully a very good series on Daemons, and certainly one that's been good so far.

McSquid Squidmc

This is my most recent tourney list. I saw what you wrote about small troop squads and its nice to see another person plays troops (at least in that sense) the same way. The question I ask myself about my list is how much I need the 6 plague marine squad but I cant really find anything that is better then 5 plague marines with 2 melta in a rhino with a combi melta that can score. After much play testing I moved from all 6 melta squads to 4 melta and 2 plasma and this feels a lot better as now my objective campers can have 24 inch range. I have found the vindicator to be a decent choice over a third obliterator squad as it can crack a land raider from 24 inches pretty good and ordnance makes them spread out and combos with lash and they are a good deal cheaper then a obliterator squad. Any changes you would do at 2k points?

Pretty solid, but there are several things I would recommend:
No CC element. Kharn?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6 Squads possibly overkill when 5 slightly larger squads more effective when the Rhinos die, and they will.
Warptime MoN Princes > LoS MoS Princes - more flexibilty, more utility against Mech, more likely to splat a Dreadnought.

I think I would tweak the list so I had 4 or 5 PM Rhino Squads with 7 men apiece, and a Fist. The extra Bolters are the extra a-i punch you can do with, and the Fists grant a versatility that is slightly lacking at the moment.

The Oblits have to provide all of the ranged fire here, which is something I'm not entirely comfy with, but is sadly a requirement of Chaos. I suppose, as highly as I do rate them, I find it hard to get over the fact that they're just Infantry in the end, and I once used a Deff Rolla to splat 2 of them, causing much hilarity, but only for me.

In the end, the list is good, but Chaos suffers more and more exponentially with every point above 1850.

:)

PS - Sorry it's taken so long to get this up - I thought my analysis would be longer and postponed until I had more time to devote to it, only to find it disappointingly short. Hopefully you can hit me with some feedback, and a dialogue can ensue. I know my other regular visitors are never shy with their opinions either. :p
