What is carapace getting you, really?

You've invested 160 points in it, across 6 units. But you've set up your list so that ideally you won't be shot at until your unit has done its primary job, which is to disembark and kill a tank or put a serious hurt on a heavy infantry unit. And a 4+ save is not going to seriously save you from any squad which can rapid fire or assault you, especially since your sergeants don't have any sort of assault kit.

It's fluffy for the Warhawks, but from a pure utility factor, it's probably not worth it in this list.

Likewise, I'm not incredibly fond of the Stormtrooper units. You're paying a 6 point premium per model for AP3 weapons and a 4+ armor save, and then taking meltaguns instead to use them as throwaway anti-tank units as well. At small squad sizes, it's not worth paying for either. The only advantage I can see to the Stormtroopers at all is that they can deep strike on their own, and thus could contest objectives. Except for the fact that they're only 5 strong and with 2 astropaths, they'll be in by turn 2 or 3, and thus dead by turn 3 or 4.

For the same cost as one of your stormtrooper squad, you can have another veteran squad (without carapace) with 3 meltas instead of 2, and 5 extra bodies to soak up wounds and shoot at infantry. And they're scoring.

I'd swap one stormtrooper squad to a vet squad and then trade in the remaining two for another Valkyrie in one of your two squads. With the leftover points, give as many of your skimmers Heavy Bolters as possible, starting with the Vendettas (which are already going to be moving slow in order to use their lascannons).

If you don't decide to keep carapace, you can swap two stormtrooper squads to veterans and use the extra points to up both Valkyrie squadrons to 3, which keeps your theme of pure airmobile and gives you 6 scoring units to boot. 6 Vet squads with 3x Melta, 2 CCS with 4 Flamers and Astropath, 6 Valkyries with MRP and 2 Vendettas is 1840. You shed 1 KP outright and make it harder to get 4 of your remaining KP (bigger squads), gain 2 scoring units, have the same number of meltas overall (though admitted can target one fewer independent target each turn).

Where did Creeeeeed go?!? LOL

Don;t forget an Astropath is optional - if he still fails reserve roll one each turn, he can try to fail the others. STs allow him to hit the middle of the board, things shielded from Vendetta fire and Valk drops. I'm unsold on Carapace as well. :)

How did this list do, or a revised version?

Looking to get back into 40K, and really loving the Valk/Vend models so looking at some type of Air Cav List.

Honestly, I doubt he remembers. Sadly, Chad has pretty much dropped out of the game recently - he stopped buying stuff to pay for a wedding, which he had a mere couple weeks ago...he may still be on his honeymoon. We haven't actually talked in ages.

I'll hit him up with an email if it's that important - but, as far as I can remember, he liked the list overall, even after the event.

Obviously, the double-Astro is less useful since the FAQ, and I much prefer all Vendettas to Valks.

If you like, I can write up a modernised version, but it will be untested. :)

Mate that would be awesome! I'm looking to get back into 40K, as some friends are playing.

1750 Points - max 1850. I wouldn't mind running it in some tournaments as well for a bit of fun (my friends say that in NZ Comp accounts for approx. 30% of total score).

I don't mind having other vehicles for support, however if preferable no Chimera's cause they look like crap.

lol - No probs. I will have a look at it tomorrow (Tuesday) and see what I can knock up that I'm relatively content with.

Since I play 1750 s often as not, I'm happy to limit it to that. :)
