New 1750 Army Possibility. (Yes, Fritz, Vypers.)

Blahblahblah, came up with a new possibility for Home Nations in Cardiff, please criticise etc...

Autarch - 80
w/ Fusion Gun

Autarch - 80
w/ Fusion Gun

10 Storm Guardians - 237
w/ 2 Fusion Guns, Wave Serpent [TL Bright Lance, Shuriken Cannon]

10 Storm Guardians - 237
w/ 2 Fusion Guns, Wave Serpent [TL Bright Lance, Shuriken Cannon]

5 Dire Avengers - 205
w/ Wave Serpent [TL Bright Lance, Shuriken Cannon]

5 Fire Dragons - 205
w/ Wave Serpent [TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon]

5 Fire Dragons - 205
w/ Wave Serpent [TL Scatter Laser, Shuriken Cannon]

Fire Prism - 125
w/ Shuriken Cannon

Fire Prism - 125
w/ Shuriken Cannon

Vyper Jetbike - 60
w/ Scatter Laser

Vyper Jetbike - 60
w/ Scatter Laser

Vyper Jetbike - 60
w/ Scatter Laser

...71 points left, so my main thought is to drop the Vypers as is, and go:

Vyper Squadron - 120
w/
Vyper [Scatter Laser]
Vyper [Scatter Laser]

Vyper Squadron - 120
w/
Vyper [Scatter Laser]
Vyper [Scatter Laser]

Instead, only 2 FA slots taken up.

Alternately, a War Walker, with 2 Scatters? Yay.  Feel the awesome there.

Actually, what seems the best bet is to drop a Fusion Gun in each Storm unit (GASP!) and replace with a Flamer...then take a Warlock with Destructor for each.  Adding an Autarch to each unit gives me tasty Duality - but putting both in the DAs instead means every unit can threaten with Melta death.  Well, all my Infantry, anyway.  lol

Suggestions, ideas, thoughts, feedback?

Thanks guys and gals.

I understand the desire for breaking the mold, but you've got a whopping six meltaguns in the list; most of them are BS3.

I think if you really want to run Storm Guardians, you're better off just admitting BS3 is unreliable and handing out the flamers (and perhaps a Hate-You-To-Death warlock).

I'd keep the Bright Lances on the DA serpents; they're less likely to WANT to move up.

I do like the thought of SCatterlasers on the Vypers since itk eeps 'em further from harm, though for the price I'd consider the double shuriken-cannon model. Do you want 12" of range, or two more shots and some issues with firing either one or two heavy weapons.

I'm not sure you even want two Autarchs...I just think you could do more with the points, even if you're thinking of double reserves. Plus, the meltaguns on them make them disposable, and that's an issue of giving up a couple KP/a chunk of VP.

That's what I've got with a look, anyway.

...I fail at reading; there are Fire Dragons in there. I blame a skirmish with the misses and self-medication with whiskey.

Still, I'm not sure I'm feeling the meltaguns on the Storm Guardians. I'd almost rather have the additional anti-personnel power of the Flamer with 'em.

the meltagun autarchs don't add altogether that much to this army...i feel like the points would be better spent on eldrad in WS with stormies for fortune on a pair of tanks, and frankly, he'll kill more than two autarch will even if he crashes and has to foot slog it. they haven't even got power weapons.

everything else looks pretty strong though, i like the dual meltas on Stormies but i prefer melta, flamer, warlock w/ Enhance. one dropped vyper would pay for that (i understand why fritz takes vypers, but if theyre not a fluff-necessity, i don't know why anyone else would)

Stormies with flame FTW! With no 'Seer loving the BS3 does suck...Plus the 2 fire dragons and 2 autarchs (both attached to DA's?),plus S6 nicely smattered around, oh and I guess the Prisms at a pinch...you have enough AT no?

Those last two elements are all you hvae currently to toast hordes...? 4 flamers and 2 HF might be a very nice addition?

I'm not sure I'd mix melta and flamer in the unit, if you needed that just pop an Autarch in each SG unit.

I like the effort to bring in vypers - they can be very useful in single model units with dual SC...but I think the Warlocks would add more overall...

I don't know man, I don't play Eldar! Raptor gives good thought...

Cant take Eldrad, no named characters allowed.

On to the list TKE, quite different from your usual antic's.... I'd wait to see what Fritz says ;)

Anytime vypers are mentioned on the 'net I immediately feel a disturbance in the warp...

With the dual autarchs getting the +2 for master strategist the Eldar reserve game works even better- which seem to be becoming mandatory vs. IG tank + valk spam and certain blood angels builds- its like all these guys know how to do is line up their models and roll dice. %th ed was supposed to be about dynamic movement, objectives, give and take, so when did we go back to playing gunlines? Anyway…

Think about those vypers coming on the weak flank of your opponent and then opening fire. I’d try and get star engines, actually would get them on at least two wave serpents so they can come on and move for the cover save ending in front of the vypers- vypes then shoot, and then the wave serpents star engine in front for cover saves all around- squadrons in cover are actually very resilient, especially if you are using the range and speed of the vyper to hang back so you are only being hit by the likes of missiles and las in return. Since you don’t have the underslunbg shuriken cannon, you could get away not using star engines since the vyper turrets can poke out ontop of the wave serpents if the serpents are infront.

The only way I could see getting Star Engines would be to drop the Stormies down to DAVU...I'm unconvinced. I like the present ability to Melta tanks with every unit...

I have to say, yeah, I prefer to use my Vypers at the fringes of their 36" range until it's time to go a-flanking. Shooting Predators in the side is especially fun, lol.

Thanks for all the thoughts!

Oh, I also realised that the remaining points would be enough that I could drop a Vyper (so I had 2) and get a 3rd Prism. Sound better?

I'm definitely on board with team "burny". BS3 meltas don't really impress, but 3 flamer templates will leave a dent.

bs 3 meltas are fail imo. Runes of warding is so boss with the prevalence of psykers now a days, I feel like I can't leave home with out it.

I think you should have to turn in your competitive player card. Haven't you heard that Bladestorm and Doom is the greatest thing evah?

[/sarcasm]My thoughts:
Wwap the Stormies to 2x Flamers. If there's not a good target, don't get out of the tank.

Leave the Vypers as 3x1 and sink the spare points into more Dragons. Add on an Exarch w DBFlamer and Crack Shot to both squads.

Maybe drop a chin Shuri off a Prism and use the change to swap an Autarch for a RoWard DoomSeer. But I think that's going to be a was in the grand scheme of things.

Cheers!
